NIPSCO is donating $2 million to disaster relief and suspending disconnections after the Aug. 11 storm that devastated Northwest Indiana with a derecho, tornadoes and straight-line winds of more than 100 mph.
The Merrillville-based utility(opens in new tab) and the NiSource Charitable Foundation, the charitable arm of its parent company NiSource, are contributing $2 million to the Legacy Foundation, Community Foundation and Unity Foundation to help with recovery efforts.
“The work of recovery doesn’t end when power is restored,” said Melody Birmingham, executive vice president and group president of NiSource utilities. “Across Northwest Indiana, local organizations have been helping to provide families with food, support seniors, coordinate volunteers and address the challenges that remain after the storms. This funding will help sustain those community-led efforts and ensure organizations can continue serving residents in the weeks and months ahead.”
