HOBART, Ind. – The Hobart Police Department and Hobart Fire Department will face off in a friendly flag football game on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event will be held in conjunction with the Hobart High School Football Team’s SOAP Game.
“Events like this give our residents the opportunity to interact with the men and women who serve our community in a fun and positive environment,” said Mayor Josh Huddlestun “While the competition may be on the field, the goal is the same: building stronger connections between Hobart’s first responders and the community they serve.”
The Police vs. Fire Flag Football Game provides residents an opportunity to cheer on local first responders outside of their traditional roles while highlighting the teamwork and partnerships that strengthen the Hobart community.
“We train for emergencies, not flag football; but I wouldn’t go telling the Fire Department that,” said Assistant Chief Timothy Pochron. “It’s friendly competition, but when the game starts, we’re there to compete.”
Residents are encouraged to attend, support both teams, and enjoy an evening celebrating Hobart’s police officers, firefighters, students, athletes, and community members.
“We know there’s going to be some competition on that field,” said Fire Chief Enrique Lopez. “But once the game starts, we plan to remind them that firefighters don’t just show up ready, we show up prepared for anything. We’re looking forward to another victory, just like our back-to-back cardboard boat race championships. It’s all in good fun, a great way to connect with the community, and it’s all for Hobart.”
The event flyer will be shared throughout the community, with printed copies available for local businesses and community partners to display.
