NORTHWEST INDIANA | Powers Health is proud to announce its investment in the MOLLI® Surgical System from Stryker Breast Care. This innovative wire-free tumor localization technology is designed to ease the breast cancer surgery experience for both patients and surgeons.

As part of its commitment to delivering the highest standard of care, Powers Health continually invests in advanced technologies that support better patient outcomes and improve the surgical experience. The MOLLI Surgical System represents the latest advancement in breast cancer treatment, offering a modern alternative to traditional wire-guided localization procedures.

The MOLLI Surgical System is being used at Community Hospital in Munster, the first location in Northwest Indiana to implement the technology.

Traditionally, breast tumors or areas of concern are marked using a thin wire placed prior to surgery. While effective, wire-guided localization may present challenges for patients and care teams due to scheduling constraints and potential discomfort. The MOLLI Surgical System eliminates the need for wires by allowing a radiologist to place a tiny 3.2 mm MOLLI Marker at any time before surgery. The marker is then precisely detected during the procedure, helping surgeons accurately locate and remove targeted tissue.

The wire-free approach may offer several benefits, including enhanced patient comfort, streamlined workflows, improved operating room efficiency and increased satisfaction for patients and clinicians. By incorporating this technology, Powers Health continues to prioritize patient-centered care while providing surgeons with innovative tools to support precision and confidence in the operating room.

Raquel Gonzalez Heredia, MD, a Powers Health breast surgeon, applauds the decision to bring the MOLLI Surgical System to patients in Northwest Indiana.

“As a breast surgeon, I focus on evidence-based care. I am thrilled to have this advanced and proven tool to help ease the surgical process and improve the lives of our patients,” Dr. Gonzalez Heredia said. “My goal is to deliver excellent cancer care while supporting patients and their families throughout the process. The MOLLI system helps me do just that.”

Marie Macke, executive director of Powers Health Cancer Care Services, echoed those words.

“We are excited to bring this state-of-the-art technology to our community as part of our ongoing commitment to advancing breast cancer care,” Macke said. “Investing in innovative solutions allows us to further enhance the patient experience while supporting exceptional clinical outcomes.”
