STATE OF MIND

Crown Point, Indiana, October 19, 2025

Step into the spotlight of the beauty and styling world, where “apprenticeship” isn’t just for the newly graduated, it’s for the trailblazers!

State of Mind Salon & Day Spa is proud to announce its official approval by the State of Indiana to participate in a groundbreaking apprenticeship program that allows future beauty professionals to train directly within the salon, instead traditional cosmetology, esthetics, or nail school tuition costs ranging from $15,000–$25,000.

We’re carving a unique path: where passionate apprentices can gain real-world mastery in our salon and spa environment all while earning their way toward full state licensure. This program is designed for anyone
interested in a paid apprenticeship instead of traditional beauty school.

This new Indiana Department of Workforce Development apprenticeship pathway provides an opportunity for aspiring cosmetologists, estheticians, and nail professionals to earn while they learn. Rather than paying for formal schooling, apprentices receive hands-on
education, mentorship, and real-world experience inside Northwest Indiana’s most established full-service salon and spa.

“We are thrilled to open our doors to the next generation of artists,” said Pattie Kobe, Founder of State of Mind Salon & Day Spa. “This program aligns perfectly with our mission — to grow confident, skilled professionals through mentorship, community, and experience. It’s a game-changer for people who have life experience and don’t want to attend a traditional beauty school.”

We have been a training salon offering a master’s in beauty for over 25 years. Recruiting students from beauty school and then teaching them how to use a blow dryer, brush and understand the fundamentals of hair is frustrating for us and for the recent graduate who has just invested $17,000 and doesn’t understand the basic science behind what we do or how we do it.

As one of only 10 salons statewide ready to participate in this elite program, State of Mind will offer apprentices access to every area of the beauty industry including hair design, skincare, nail artistry. Applications are available for individuals interested in pursuing a licensed beauty career through this hands-on learning model.
