South Lake County – The annual Volunteer Fair & Blood Drive, sponsored by the Crown Point Community Foundation, drew over 200 potential volunteers to the event. Attendees had the chance to meet and learn about more than 50 nonprofits from throughout Lake County who are looking for volunteers.

“I was so thankful to be a part of another fantastic Volunteer Fair,” said Crown Point Community Foundation Board Member Chrisanne Christ. “The weather was cool and rainy outside, but the room was filled with warm hearts and smiles. It is an inspiring event and so wonderful being surrounded by such caring individuals!”

The Crown Point Community Foundation awarded five grants for $1,000 each to qualifying randomly-selected participating organizations. Congratulations to this year’s grant winners: Cedar Lake Historical Association – The Museum at Lassen’s Resort, Lake County Right to Life, Lirio Resources, Inc., Phil’s Friends, and Planting Possibilities.

“It was so exciting to hear our name called for the grant giveaway,” said Julie Zasada, Executive Director at Cedar Lake Historical Association – The Museum at Lassen’s Resort. “We have earmarked the funds to support our 6th season of Steam Through History – our signature resort history cruise experience on Cedar Lake. Oftentimes, the Volunteer Fair guests who visit our table aren’t even aware there is a museum in Cedar Lake, much less one that offers authentic steamboat rides. We encourage them to come for a visit to get to know us better and discover all the ways they can become involved as a volunteer.”

In addition to the Volunteer Fair, there was an onsite Blood Drive conducted by Versiti Blood Centers. The blood drive collected 17 units. The units will potentially help up to 51 patients in need! ”Thank you for going above and beyond – your drive didn’t just succeed, it soared,” said Tracey Jaramillo, Senior Account Representative at Versiti Blood Centers. “I’m truly grateful for the effort you and your team put into making this event such a success. I’m excited to work with you again on your next drive!”

The CPCF would like to thank the Crown Point Community School Corporation, LAMAR, The Times Newspaper, Versiti Blood Centers, and the CPCF Board of Directors for helping to make this event possible.
