Powers Health celebrates World Voice Day, will host free ‘Every Voice Matters’ event

April 16, 2025

Husain, Inna, A, MD

NORTHWEST INDIANA | Our voices are more than just sound. They are how we share stories, express emotions and connect with the world. But for some people, vocal injuries can take away this vital part of the human connection.

World Voice Day, celebrated around the globe every year on April 16, is dedicated to increasing awareness about vocal health and appreciating the human voice, said Inna Husain, MD, a board-certified otolaryngologist and medical director of Laryngology at Powers Health.

“Until you feel hoarseness, have difficulty swallowing or have trouble speaking, you really don’t think about the importance of being able to vocalize,” she said.

The highly skilled team of otolaryngology specialists at Powers Health provides a full spectrum of diagnostic and treatment options for disorders of the ear, nose, throat and related structures of the head and neck, which includes a Professional Voice Program.

“Anybody who uses their voice to do their job, is considered a professional voice user,” Dr. Husain said. “With this program, we work with our patients to help rehab the voice. If they develop lesions or polyps, for example, we can surgically excise those to help patients get back to their voice. We then use the expertise of our speech pathology colleagues, who work on voice therapy.”

Powers Health, inspired by World Voice Day, will host the “Every Voice Matters: An Evening of Vocal Health and Celebration” from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on May 19 at Community Hospital, Cafeteria Conference Rooms A, B & C, 901 MacArthur Blvd., Munster.

During this free event, Dr. Husain and Speech Language Pathologist Abbey Carlson will discuss essential tips for vocal health and offer strategies to navigate age-related voice changes. The event will culminate in a celebration featuring live performances from inspiring patients, showcasing the power and resilience of the human voice.
